The fashion world has gone dog crazy

Creators of the world’s fashion never stop creating new and sophisticated designs of clothes and accessories for dogs. The desire to satisfy the sophisticated tastes of their clients is so strong that the world of dog fashion started to resemble the world of human fashion. Dog collections can be seen not only in food shops but also on real catwalks organised in the biggest cities of the world.

These are real catwalk shows.

They walk proudly in the rain of flashes. They cross hundreds of metres of catwalks to the sound of atmospheric music. They focus the attention of the entire audience on their creations. They arouse admiration, and for some even jealousy. They dazzle and set new trends. Who are they? Dogs. At the… dog fashion show.

In Fort Lauderdale, one of the most prestigious holiday resorts in the United States, a fashion show for dogs was organised. Yorkies, groomers and French bulldogs strolled down the catwalk dressed in fashionable outfits. When the four-legged show came to an end, visitors were able to purchase the outfit of their choice. The prices of dog dresses and coats reached up to several hundred dollars. Many of the outfits were hand-made from fabrics such as cashmere or alpaca wool.

Traditionally, fashion shows for dogs are held in Tokyo from time to time. Anyway, in Japan logomania reaches a level which is far from the rest of the world. For Japanese people dog itself plus its neat and often extravagant image is of great importance. Why? Probably because in this country not everyone can afford a dog! You need special permission from the building administrator for this animal. Large dogs can only be kept on the first floor. Therefore, the Japanese take care of their pets very carefully. They spare them practically nothing. However, dressing a dog and making it look really impressive is a must for the Japanese.

At fashion shows in Japan, it is often the owners themselves who present their dog’s outfit and, of course, the dog itself (picture: Yoshihiro Nomura, who presented his pet poodle Cream and its coat at a fashion show for dogs). The Pet Fashion Week, held in New York, also featured amazing dog creations. Here beautiful dogs and equally beautiful models presented the fashion.

In London, as every year, The Pet-a-Porter Harrods Fashion Show was organised. Dogs appeared on the catwalk wearing clothes and accessories created by Viviene Westwood and Roberto Cavalli, among others.
