How to choose the best dog breeder? 5 tips what to avoid!

Share:

Many people prepare very carefully for the purchase of a dog. They analyse their choice in terms of character, personality, need for exercise and, above all, their love of the breed. Once everything has been discussed and prepared for the arrival of a new member of the family, it remains to choose the right kennel. How does it be right and not overlook the warning signs? Here is what you should pay special attention to

1. Knowledge gap

A good breeder has extensive knowledge of his beloved breed. When choosing a breeder you should be guided in the same way as when choosing a service provider or seller. We are not able to be specialists and experts in every field and therefore we often rely on the knowledge and experience of the seller. We ask many questions and expect answers, if the seller is reliable and competent he inspires confidence and we decide to buy. If not, we often do not buy. Let us follow the same principle when choosing a breeder!

2. Visit the breeder

Every good breeder wants to meet at his breeding place. Firstly he wants to show off his animals and secondly, he wants to see if his dog is in the right hands and has a good home. Therefore, if the breeder is flirting, avoids a meeting or simply refuses to meet us, a red light should go on.

3. Medical examinations

It is good practice for every breeder to have their dogs medically examined, both puppies and adult dogs.

It should not come as a surprise to you if the breeder requires you to send in the results of the tests on the dog you have bought. If the breeder himself does not provide you with the results or says that he does not test his dogs because they are healthy, you should stay away from him.

4. Place of meeting

Here again, as in the previous point about the kennel visit, you must be vigilant if the seller wants to meet at another location. Of course, there are different situations, maybe the seller will be close to your home or maybe it will be more convenient for him to complete the transaction in another place. If you have already been to the kennel and nothing has given you cause for concern, you can agree to this. Otherwise never agree to it

5. The ideal dog

We must remember that, as with many things, the perfect dog for everyone does not exist. Every breed has its advantages and disadvantages. This is related, for example, to illnesses, the need for exercise or the relationship with other animals or children. If a salesman tries to tell you that his breed is good for everyone and has no disadvantages, think carefully about whether he is a good breeder.
